This episode of the Scientista Podcast marks a pause in our usual format. Instead of bringing on a guest, we took time to reflect—together—on why Scientista exists, what this first year has been like, and what we’re building toward.
2025 was our first full year as a podcast and as an organization. It was a year shaped by intensity, uncertainty, and a growing sense that many people—especially women—were navigating their work and lives under pressure, often without enough support. Scientista grew out of that reality. It began as an effort to create connection at moments when confidence wavers, plans shift, or progress feels harder than it should.
From the beginning, Scientista has been grounded in conversation. Not performative conversation, but honest ones—about how decisions get made, how careers unfold, and how people keep going when outcomes don’t match expectations. That approach has shaped both the podcast and the community that has formed around it.
Over the course of the year, we spoke with scientists, policymakers, cultural figures, and allies—women and men—who shared what it takes to lead in complex systems. Across those conversations, a consistent theme emerged: setbacks are inevitable. What matters is whether you have people around you when they happen.
We’ve seen that reflected not just in the episodes themselves, but in the response from listeners. People told us that hearing others articulate uncertainty, frustration, or doubt helped them feel less isolated. There is power in realizing that these experiences aren’t personal failures—they’re part of being human.
As the year went on, Scientista also began to take shape beyond the podcast. Through events and conversations with our audience, it became clear that people were looking for more than content. They were looking for connection—for places to show up, exchange ideas, and feel grounded in evidence and shared values.
Looking back on 2025, we’re proud of the conversations we’ve shared and grateful for the community that has found us. We’re also clear that Scientista is still in its early stages. The work ahead is about building spaces—virtual and physical—where people who lead with evidence can support one another and move forward together.
In 2026, that work expands. We’re planning new ways to engage, from fellowships and academic partnerships to gatherings where Scientista becomes something you can participate in, not just listen to. The goal remains the same: to build a community that leads with science and shared experience, providing support when outcomes disappoint and direction when momentum stalls.
This episode is both a reflection and an invitation. If this first year has shown us anything, it’s that none of this is meant to be done alone—and that building community is itself a form of leadership.
